4 Back to School Tips for Parents
School is in session, and your kids are under school supervision for up to 8 hours a day. Playgrounds, sports, or even in-school activities can land your child in the nurse’s office or dealing with an injury that might limit their activities in school. If you need tips on how to keep your child injury-free this school year, then look no further.
1.Weigh their backpack and make sure it is not too heavy. According to the American Occupational Therapy Association, a backpack should not weigh more than 10% of your child’s body weight. Heavy backpacks cause strain on a variety of muscles in your child. Make sure their backpacks are light and their spirits are high!
2.The first day of school is always a great time to wear a new outfit. But these days, it seems as though fashion has taken over durability. Those cute shoes you bought for your child might actually be harming your their feet. Purchase shoes with arch support and good shock absorption to avoid developing Sever’s Disease.
3.If your child plays a school sport, make sure you purchase the required safety gear. If it is provided by the school, ask the coach how old the gear is and if it still is in good condition. The newer, the better!
4.Pack a healthy lunch! Make sure your child is well nourished, and has strong bones. These are great ways to avoid injury and stay healthy.
